questions people ask through the door.
area & timing
where do you pick up right now?
Six neighborhoods along the East River: the Lower East Side and East Village (10002, 10003, 10009), Williamsburg and Greenpoint (11211, 11249, 11222), and Long Island City and Astoria (11101, 11109, 11102, 11103, 11105, 11106). A neighborhood opens only after a laundromat there signs on and passes our test orders. Put your ZIP in the buzzer to check.
when do I get it back?
The next evening, 7–9 pm, whether we picked up in the morning or the evening window. If we miss the window we confirmed, $10 comes off that order automatically. If we can’t get into your building at delivery, we email you, call if you gave us a number, and try again in the next window.
do I have to be home?
No. Pick one: hand it over at your door, leave it with your doorman or front desk, or set it outside your apartment door. Put buzzer codes or gate instructions in the notes.
I’m in a fifth-floor walk-up. is that extra?
No. Same price on any floor. We come to your apartment door unless you tell us to meet you downstairs.
price & payment
how much does it cost?
$2.19 a pound with a $30 minimum. Pickup and return are included, and there’s no service fee. Keep a standing weekly window and it’s $1.99 a pound. Comforters, duvets and sleeping bags are $25 each, and bath mats are $6. Laundry service isn’t subject to New York sales tax, so the total in your weigh-in email is the total.
how do I know the weight is right?
Every bag is weighed at the laundromat, and you get a photo of the scale with the reading and your total. If the number looks off, reply before you pay. We re-weigh, send a second photo, and you pay the lower of the two.
how do I pay?
After your laundry is back, we email a payment link. It opens our payment processor’s secure page, so your card details never touch our website. No card is needed to request a pickup.
handling & care
is my laundry washed with anyone else’s?
No. One order goes in one machine. It’s folded on a cleaned table and comes back sealed with your order number on the tag.
who actually washes it?
A neighborhood laundromat we partner with, in or next to your area, using commercial machines. We don’t own washers. We handle the booking, the windows, the weigh-in, the receipt and the follow-up. Partner laundromats are named on this site once their agreement is signed.
what detergent do you use?
The laundromat’s standard commercial detergent, unless you tick fragrance-free, which costs nothing extra. Bleach only if you ask, and only on whites. We can’t take your own detergent yet.
how do you fold?
Shirts folded, pants in thirds, socks paired, underwear stacked, sheets folded as sets, towels in thirds. Want T-shirts rolled or towels folded hotel-style? Put it in the notes and it goes on your file.
what can go in the bag?
Everyday clothes, underwear and socks, sheets and towels, workout gear, kids’ clothes, comforters and duvets, bath mats and cloth napkins.
what can’t go in the bag?
Dry-clean-only items, suits, wool coats, leather, suede, shoes, rugs bigger than a bath mat, pet beds, and anything soaked in oil, paint or chemicals. If it’s precious, keep it out. Not sure about something? Bag it separately with a note and we’ll check before it goes in.
what about bedbugs?
We can’t take laundry from a home with an active bedbug or pest problem, because it puts every other order at the laundromat at risk. If that’s you, a heat-treatment service is the right call. Once you’re cleared, we’d be glad to pick up.
policies
can I cancel?
Yes. Cancel free any time before the courier heads out by replying to your confirmation email. At the weigh-in you can still say no, and we bring the bag back unwashed at no charge.
what if something’s lost or damaged?
Tell us within 48 hours of delivery. We search with the laundromat for 48 hours. If it doesn’t turn up, or if washing damaged it, we pay up to $50 per item and $250 per order, based on a receipt or a fair replacement value. Items labeled dry-clean only that weren’t flagged aren’t covered.
do you have an app? do you text?
No app, and no texts for now either. Everything comes by email, and the courier may call if the buzzer doesn’t work.
about us
who’s behind block laundry?
A new New York pickup service, run as a trade name of {{LEGAL_ENTITY}}. Small on purpose, one neighborhood at a time. Reach us at hello@blocklaundry.com or {{PHONE}}.
is “basically in-unit” a real washer in my apartment?
Sadly, no. It means you put the bag outside your door and it comes back folded, which is the part of in-unit laundry most of us actually wanted.
